90 | mup 2|2015 English Abstracts ■ Very practical - The „Ausbildungsskala“ (training scale) for therapy horses in everyday life Katharina Westermann The horse is the central medium in equine-assisted interventions (EAI) and is mainly responsible for its success. The quality of the horses used in EAI is determined by the selection, its training and husbandry as well as the conditions of use. The specifics of horse-assisted health promotion for humans open up new scopes within the training programs of these horses. Therapy horses have to be trained in its personality and in its movements. Crucial to a successful training of these horses are the expertise of the instructor and clearly structured, realizable training sequences. By taking the entire system into consideration we extend chances for changes and individual development. With the aid of systemic tools we succeed in giving impulses that make further steps possible. The article presents some examples that can be used in all fields of animal-assisted work with different kinds of clients. The author would like to invite readers to consider new perspectives and to expand their possibilities for action.
