Professionalization in equine-assisted coaching is still in the process of development. This article emphasizes the need for further professionalization of horse-assisted coaching. A theoretical classification of horse-assisted coaching into existing horse-assisted concepts is first carried out. The generic principles are then presented as a possible theoretical foundation that is already applied in the context of coaching and therapy. For this reason, they are transferred to the horse-assisted setting. This article provides the theoretical basis for the following second part, in which the first empirical results on this theoretical basis will be explained.
